Blogspot Exodus Progress Report

| 4 Comments | 4 TrackBacks

A number of blogs have moved lately, sparked by Blogger's ongoing woes, Dean's Blogspot Jihad, and random acts of change. Here's a brief list:

  • Dean Esmay publishes the impressive list of territories liberated in his Blogspot Jihad. 45 blogs, with 5 more to go! Slogan idea: "Bloggers out of Blogspot! MT from the river to the sea!"
  • WizBang has more members of the blogspot exodus - he's almost at 100.
  • Blaster's Blog is now Overpressure.com, thanks to Dean. An equally cool name, and a good post on U.S. Army transformation.
  • Canadian blogger Jay Currie's "One Damn Thing After Another".
  • Greg Hlatky's "A Dog's Life" is now Borzoiblog.com, and still comments on global matters as well as his beloved dogs.
  • Blogs of War - there can be only one! The esteemed Dr. Frank now has his own MT-based home at DoktorFrank.com.
  • Jay Solo, you need to join them. Fatimah, Oxblog, you too.
  • XRLQ is suggesting that this should become a Swarm Effort!I'm watching in real time as a major piece of software gets its brains and future blown out, and it's fascinating. Anyone else out there we've missed? Use the Comments section to let me know.

Meanwhile, Venomous Kate notes that a system has been devised that will let non-MT blogs use MT Trackback (another WizBang creation). This is a major bonus to platforms other than Movable Type. Trackback is a great little perk of MT, and using it will increase your awareness, visibility and readership.

You pretty much got it all in one post!

Thanks for the link the the Running List of BlogSpot Defectors. The list was started May 26, and as of today I have 93 names listed. We should be at 100 in less than 30 days.

Thanks for the heads up on Borzoiblog.com...

PS - The trackback pinger is mine too... Just doing my part.

Well said. The only thing I have to add is that Dean is ready for a well-deserved breather. Now is the time for the rest of us tech-savvy bloggers to step up to the plate. And when I say "tech-savvy," I mean that loosely; if you managed to install MT for yourself, then you've already established that you're "tech-savvy" enough to help out a few other people, too. Dammit.

    Hi all:
I'm thinking about moving off Blogspot but it's the price tag that's a bit stiff.15$U.S./month is still a bit steep for me.
Besides, I'm somewhat intimidated by installation and tweaking of Moveable type. I'm somewhat tech literate but Moveable type strikes as quite formidable :)

    xavier

Xavier, you need to join DeanEsmay.com's Blogspot Jihad.

USD $20 for conversion to MT, then $5/month for hosting, plus a domain name of course but domainsatcost.ca makes that CDN $15.

Here are some quick tips for adding simple Textile formatting to your comments, though you can also use proper HTML tags:

    *This* puts text in bold.

    _This_ puts text in italics.

bq. This "bq." at the beginning of a paragraph, flush with the left hand side and with a space after it, is the code to indent one paragraph of text as a block quote.

To add a live URL, "Text to display":http://windsofchange.net/ (no spaces between) will show up as Text to display. Always use this for links - otherwise you will screw up the columns on our main blog page.
