Darfur In More Depth

To be honest, I'm starting to suffer from Darfur Fatigue, myself. It's such an unrelentingly depressing topic (and I'm not at my most cheery at present). Nonetheless, attention must be paid, and these two substantial articles are superb at explaining the complex and awful roots of the problem.

First, Lee Smith's Sudan's Osama: The Islamist roots of the Darfur genocide, and John Ryle's truly in-depth Disaster In Darfur.

Read The Rest Scale: 5 out of 5 for understanding.

Gary Farber's home blog is Amygdala.

Those are some interesting theories, Gary. However, the Sudanese government has highlighted the true source of the rebel uprising: the Yahood.

More from a recent AEI forum here (via Laura Rozen).

But the EU says there isn't any genocide in the Sudan

Those europeans. tsk tsk

but then, when you consider this

it makes a sad sort of sense.

Here are some quick tips for adding simple Textile formatting to your comments, though you can also use proper HTML tags:

*This* puts text in bold.

_This_ puts text in italics.

bq. This "bq." at the beginning of a paragraph, flush with the left hand side and with a space after it, is the code to indent one paragraph of text as a block quote.

To add a live URL, "Text to display":http://windsofchange.net/ (no spaces between) will show up as Text to display. Always use this for links - otherwise you will screw up the columns on our main blog page.
