Shout it from the rooftops

Via Ron Wright and Internet Haganah, it appears that there is a new al-Qaeda strategy document out, Idarat al-Tawahhush ("The Management of Barbarism"). You can download an Arabic copy of the document (which appears to have been aimed for internal distribution within the network) here and given that it's over 113 pages long it's going to take me quite awhile (I mean months, anybody who wants to help out is more than welcome to do so) to get through this whole thing.

One might ask what the heck is there to be gained in reading these idiots' rants. While I think there is a definite benefit to be gained in figuring out of what one's enemies say about themselves, there is also a far more concrete reason why people need to be aware of this stuff. The last al-Qaeda strategy document like this, Iraq al-Jihad, brought us 3/11. If there are clues in this stuff as to where or how these guys are going to strike next, I definitely consider it worth the study.

Seems sensible to me. Keep us posted as you read/translate this thing.

Yes, a translation would be very interesting? Is anyone (anyone who would make a translation public, at least) working on a translation? It is a bit outside the area of interest of MEMRI f.ex

Dan:

Good for you. I'd offer to help, but sort of dropped my study of Arabic (and just about everything else) recently. Er, don't these guys have enough sense to write an executive summary?

Dan,

Thanks for the link. We've posted the Jamestown summary on our forums site. According to HSPIG's Arabic resource the Jamestown summary is an accurate representation of this document.

BTW the link to the original doc in the Jamestown article is no longer working. We're hosting a PDF copy on our server. See the forum post at:

Here are some quick tips for adding simple Textile formatting to your comments, though you can also use proper HTML tags:

*This* puts text in bold.

_This_ puts text in italics.

bq. This "bq." at the beginning of a paragraph, flush with the left hand side and with a space after it, is the code to indent one paragraph of text as a block quote.

To add a live URL, "Text to display":http://windsofchange.net/ (no spaces between) will show up as Text to display. Always use this for links - otherwise you will screw up the columns on our main blog page.
