After the MSNBC blog roundup yesterday, a left-wing blog attacked the piece on the grounds that the Spanish government had just announced what it actually sold under the "chemical warfare" category.
While the announcement clears up some issues, it raises others. Part 1 of my answer to Left I blog is up tonight. Part 2 will follow tomorrow.

Where, exactly, do I applaud the Saudi royal family's treatment of fundamentalists -- or for that matter, Putin's treatment of Chechens and others fighting alongside the Chechen separatists?

I care about this story for two reasons. First, until just recently the only information we had was that a country which has in the past never declared CW appeared to say it was exporting CW to a region of the world where they have not previously been reported. And second, this small sale of CS is part of a larger sale of military and paramilitary goods which has raised concern and drawn some criticism in the EU.
A reader over at RP isn't surprised at the category under which the CS sale is reported.

As for the tear gas, yes thats one item on the list. out of many. notice how the left will wave that item around, in a vain attempt to have you ignore the rest.

The only reason CS gas is illegal according to the convention is that the US was using it to smoke Viet Cong out of their holes back during The Nam. It's a bullshit classification, created by commies, and the the Spanish government is ignoring it.

It is not a bullshit classification. A chemical doesn't have to kill to be a chemical weapon, they only have to make fighting impossible without using counter measures. I don't think you can fight without gasmask when you are in a teargas cloud so it is obvious a weapon.
