| 10 Comments | 2 TrackBacks

Welcome! Our goal at Winds of Change.NET is to give you one power-packed briefing of insights, news and trends from the global War on Terror that leaves you stimulated, informed, and occasionally amused every Monday & Thursday. Thursday's Winds of War briefings are given by me, Colt, of Eurabian Times.

TOP TOPICS

  • Is Zarqawi wounded? Bill and Dan look at what his condition might be, and where he might have gone, as well as the repercussions of his death.

Other Topics Today Include: Iran diplomatic wrangling; Egypt's reforms; Hezbollah admits to rocket arsenal; PA rejects prisoner release offer; Hitler to run in PLO elections; Syria quits co-operation with U.S.; Zarqawi guys nabbed; Iraq legalises alcohol; Roggio analyses; Hezbollah in the U.S.; U.S. looking to protect Europe from Islam; central America terror alert a false alarm; ETA bomb wounds 50+; Bosnian police chief retracts 3/11 detonator claim; E.U. improving Hezbollah, Hamas ties; petrol bombs thrown at Syrian embassy in Berlin; three dead civilians in Kashmir; Taliban commander caught; Thai A-Q teacher and students arrested; Taylor recieves A-Q cash; West Africa a potential al-Qaeda base; and much more.

IRAN

  • Condi has reacted cooly.

THE MIDDLE EAST

  • There is a crackdown underway in Syria. The 8 members of the country's only active political forum have been arrested.

IRAQ AND THE GULF

  • The Carnival of the Liberated is up. Interesting controversy about Spirit of America; Hammorabi claims Syrian regulars are fighting alongside terrorists; and Saddam in his underwear.

THE AMERICAS

  • An alert in El Salvador and Nicaragua for two al-Qaeda suspects was a false alarm.

EUROPE

  • London's IISS thinktank says U.S. policy viz. the war on terror appear increasingly effective, though they maintain that the Iraq war is helping terrorists recruit.
  • Petrol bombs have been thrown at the Syrian embassy in Berlin. There were no injuries and only minimal damage, but the Syrians have words for the perpetrators: "If this was the work of any Syrian groups then these people are documenting that they have not understood the current modernisation and development transformations going on in the entire country." The arrest of every member of the Al-Atassi Forum for National Dialogue is what, exactly?

ASIA & AUSTRALASIA

AFRICA

Something a little different:

  • The Uncyclopedia - The Free Encyclopedia Of Politically Incorrect Non-Information.

Good Coverage of Afgahanistan from Right In Raleigh
Excerpt: I criticize the regional paper here in Raleigh, The News & Observer on my blog, but they have a good military reporter who is now in Afghanistan with the 82nd. His series is worth a read.

Thanks for the linkage, Colt! Hope all's going well with you.

Slightly OT (and probably unrelated), but when I noticed your Bosnia comment, I thought you might be interested in another Italian news story I blogged on a couple of weeks ago. It was on TG5 (one of Berlusconi's stations) and it was about the arrest of some men accused of planning terrorist attacks in Italy. An excerpt:

"Also in Milan, DIGOS executed 13 arrest warrants involving Tunisians who, from 1997 to 2001, allegedly offered their help to people with ties to an extremist cell, based on their experience in training camps in Bosnia and Afghanistan."

(couldn't get that blockquote code to work...)

Y'all,

Lt. Pantano has had the charges dropped against him.
Great topic to discuss.
I think this is a positive sign.

The absurd superstitions of Nigerian imams has led to a 'a major epidemic' of polio.

It is not superstition but paranoia. It is not, like some protestant denominations, that vaccination is against their religion but that they believe that the vaccin is poisoned by America

You might be interested that an Iraqi blogger, Hammorabi, has had a post up for the last few days describing in detail how he believes Zarqawi has been wounded. He does not provide any references, so there is no way to determine the validity of his statements, but they seem consistent with what has come out in the media so far.

As noted by a, this is a real hysteria. And it etends to AIDs, and it extends to this country.

I love CSpan, and on it occasionally people make comments indicating that they are part of a large portion of people who believe our government is plotting to make them extinct. We all immediately assume they're nutso. but there are lots of them, and they have lots of examples of atrocities committed against them.

No, I'm not that far out there. But regret that there are grounds for such beliefs.

What atrocities has America committed in Nigeria? I'm lost, I'm afraid.

What atrocities has America committed in Nigeria?
I think it might be my fault. I once got this e-mail from a Nigerian official asking for my help with a liquidity problem. I declined. I'm sure it lead to a great financial atrocity for him.

I'm sorry. Will they take their medicine now?

Colt,

We let their spammers live.

They send Bibles. Is that not enough?

On a somewhat more serious note: Nigeria has oil. That is enough to have experienced US power. Beside since when do muslims need a reason

Hmm. I think we should posse up and sort that out...

Here are some quick tips for adding simple Textile formatting to your comments, though you can also use proper HTML tags:

*This* puts text in bold.

_This_ puts text in italics.

bq. This "bq." at the beginning of a paragraph, flush with the left hand side and with a space after it, is the code to indent one paragraph of text as a block quote.

To add a live URL, "Text to display":http://windsofchange.net/ (no spaces between) will show up as Text to display. Always use this for links - otherwise you will screw up the columns on our main blog page.
