Yemen: Score Political Points Today!

Zip over to Incognito Blog, give it a read. Write a polite letter on behalf of Abdulkarim al-Khaiwanii, the imprisoned editor of al-Shoura newspaper, noting your concern and asking that he be freed.

Praktike recommends Jamestown.org as a good source on Yemen events. This article may be especialy helpful. If any of our readers have further thoughts or contributions re: events in Yemen, use the comments section. I'd be interested.

I dashed off a brief and polite email to the addresses listed demanding a free press for Yemen.

Takes 2 minutes. Do it.

Foreign Policy ranked Yemen the eighth most likely state to fail in their Failed States Index (latest issue July/August). The eye catcher, to me, was their 7.8% GDP spent on defense.

I'll be interested to see if I get a response to the emails I sent.

Jane is a courageous journalist. She's done great work in exposing the abuses in Yemen.

One of her most recent posts is how the government of Yemen purchased Mig 29s. For use against whom? Unless I'm missing something, they have no natural enemies in the region. Maybe, at the rate they're going, they fear us.
