Iraq's third elections following the overthrow of Saddam Hussein are underway. An amazing achievement - and this one is the one where they move beyond transitional governments.

No End But Victory includes posts by Iraqis, photos, news, and more. Sunni get out the vote fatwas?!?

Concurrently, the Purple Finger for Freedom campaign is underway. Rep. Bobby Jindal's idea seems to have caught on....

I wonder if that woman is forced to wear a hajib or if she already wore one during Saddam's reign.

Maybe she wanted to wear a hajib during Saddam's reign, but was not allowed.

But how is she voting? Does she want someone who will protect her right to wear the hajib? Does she want to force other women to wear the hajib? Does she want to be free not to wear a hajib?

Or does she have more important things on her mind than fashion? The world waits . . .

Most women wore a hajib during Saddam's rule, but now they are forced to.

Forced to wear a hajib? Well, that sure negates actually living in a democracy. Good thing "a" explained that to me.

If memory serves, Hussein persecuted the Shiia for wearing the hajib during the Iran war. Hussein intended to modernize Iraq and overt displays of religiusity were punished during that period. Until it became convenient to be seen as pious and join forces with the islamofascists anyway.

If the punishment for not wearing a hajib is rape than yes, that negates democracy
