"Path to 9/11": A TV Docudrama worth watching?

| 8 Comments | 2 TrackBacks

ABC sent L.A.-based critic Justin Levine a preview DVD of "Path to 9/11," a made-for-TV movie that the network will be broadcasting next week. Levine's very favorable review is at Patterico's Pontifications.

According to ABC (the US network, not the Aussie one), the first part of this 5-hour mini-series will be shown Sunday, September 10 at 8pm/7pm Central. The conclusion will be the following night in the same time slot.

Reviewer Levine appears to be knowledgable about the events surrounding the 9/11 attack, and is properly critical of most of the dramatizations that have been released to this point. This newest effort is, unsurprisingly, a dramatization of the 9/11 Commission Report. That's good in some ways and bad in others--Dan Darling wrote contemporaneously at Winds on some of the report's numerous shortcomings. Then there's the glaring omission of Able Danger. Other analysts, including Stephen Hayes, have also been unkind to the Report that the movie is based on.

Still, for all its failings, the report did provide a timeline and a narrative framework in which to locate events and people. Its faults appear to lie mainly in errors of omission and interpretation, rather than in outright misstatements of fact.

The IMDB entry on "The Path to 9/11" will be here.

This is a right wing hit job before the November elections. See ThinkProgress.com for more info on the writer - a conservative activist who is a friend of Rush Limbaugh.

anon,

Think what you want, of course. Unlike you, I'll withold judgement until I get to see it. For all of the 9/11 Comission Report's errors, many of the faults it found with both the Clinton and Bush Administrations seem to have held up to scrutiny. So how could Part One of the movie not be critical of the administration in power for more than 8 of the 9 years that preceded 9/11/2001?

Further comments on the movie by Wretchard* and Justin Levine.

For a clear, extraordinarily well made, logical documentary (with some sources and references for the sake of at least some credibility) see the documentary "Why We Fight". A sort of Fahrenheit 911 for people who like polysyllabic words. There is no doubt that the US government provoked the attack by the simple logic that such an extreme, suicidal, murderous, difficult and risky enterprise would not have been undertaken without a reason. Ultimately, the 9/11 attacks have been the single worst thing ever to have happened to the Arabic world.... and the best for Prez Bush and paranoid right wing control freaks the world over.

It is a travesty that a network in a free country that has a free press broke under pressure from a political party and has chosen to edit a “drama” mini series. I will watch the mini series, then, if I feel the truth has been altered, I will personally boycott all the sponsors of the show and refuse to watch anything on ABC again.

I am boycotting any network and/or manufacturer that would support a docudrama that depicts lies of any kind in regards to 9/11.

I will not watch the show but I will definitly get a list of the shows advertisers and post it on every blog I can so people will know the companies which support the rewriting American history.

It's not bad enough that we have had our congressional rights stripped from us but now Neocons want to sell us a new version of the path that led to 9/11????

They will get away with it unless we stand up and say enough is enough!

It was just announced that Scholastic has pulled their support of the ABC program or else I would have given their contact info as well!

There is no better time then the present so ACT NOW!

I love it Liberals all over are whining about this and that makes me think even without seeing it that there must be truth in it for them to be so upset. Cry on liberals the movie will air and you won't stop it. Got to get me some popcorn for the show :))

Libs: How is it that the Bush administration is solely (in your minds) responsible for 911 when they just took the reigns from the Clinton administration, who had the reigns for the previous 8 years?

And if you say that Bush angered them and caused them to do it, let's not forget the Islamic terrorist attacks during the Clinton years like the first bombing in the WTC, the USS Cole attack in Yemen, to just name two. Did Bush somehow cause those too? Maybe these fanatics just hate anyone not of the same beliefs, as they keep telling us.

The fact that the Clinton crew are so mad about this must mean there is something to hide. Probably something very big indeed. After all, for Sandy Berger to stuff top secret documents in his socks and remove them from the national archives must mean they were desperately trying to keep something hidden from the 911 commission, correct?

Or do you just have such short selective memories?

How can you claim to care about the first amendment or any others for that manner when you support sensorship of this program? You only say you beleive in the 1st amendment when it serves your purposes, otherwise you really could care less. Historically it's usually dictators and communists that practice sensorship of the press.

If you really like that kind of an extreme leftist agenda, you can always move to China, Cuba or Venezuela. They would be glad to have you.

There needs to be a "docudrama" made about Bush helping Osama attack the WTC for political and financial gain. I think it would have more credibility

Here are some quick tips for adding simple Textile formatting to your comments, though you can also use proper HTML tags:

*This* puts text in bold.

_This_ puts text in italics.

bq. This "bq." at the beginning of a paragraph, flush with the left hand side and with a space after it, is the code to indent one paragraph of text as a block quote.

To add a live URL, "Text to display":http://windsofchange.net/ (no spaces between) will show up as Text to display. Always use this for links - otherwise you will screw up the columns on our main blog page.
