September 11, 20069/11 Comprehensive Roundup 2006: Five Years In - And So It Begins...by Joe Katzman at September 11, 2006 3:18 AM
"Did you exchange 9/11. Of course you remember where you were. That day was a summons, a call; many answered it, in many different ways. Our team is here because of it. In all probability, so are you. This September 11th we honour those who answered that call, and those who answer it still. Amidst the clamour and tumult of all the 9/11 related posts and articles over the past 4 years, some stand out and speak more truly to the essence of that dark day - and the challenges that lie before us still. All of us are called on define the parts we play, and the exchanges we will make. What part will you play? "Ah," you say, "but I'm not a writer, or a hero." Funny, but I've got a few people in here who would have said the very same thing.

Thank you for showing this photo. The best way to honor these victims is to look clearly and unflinchingly at the reality they were faced with that day, and stand with them in spirit. Now, the WaPo picks today to say Iraq's Anbar is lost, and that CIA officers are buying legal defense insurance in case they are prosecuted for doing their jobs. Would we ever have predicted such a thing when 9/11 happened? Where the Admin. is attacked for trying to prevent another attack, where any kind of rememberance or warning is "fear-mongering"? Our enemies know us well. They can win by watching us tie our own hands behind our backs, and paralyze ourselves.

I must say that I find this endless 9/11 masturbation distasteful. So we've got sucker-punched then, fine, kill everyone involved in the perpetration of this thing and move on already. There's no honour in being kicked in the nuts, as it were, why all the theatrics? "There's no honour in being kicked in the n**s, as it were, why all the theatrics?" Last I checked, a good hard kick to the groin causes all sorts of theatrics.

"must say that I find this endless 9/11 masturbation distasteful. So we've got sucker-punched then, fine, kill everyone involved in the perpetration of this thing and move on already. There's no honour in being kicked in the nuts, as it were, why all the theatrics?" Because simple logic tells us that 9/11 will be followed by something much worse. Imagine Osama with a spare nuke from Pakistan following a coup; or Iran loaning him one; or NK selling him one. The logic of terrorism DEMANDS ever escalating attacks to intimidate and destroy "corrupt" societies. Islam cannot co-exist with the modern world because modernity destroys that traditional society. Therefore they must kill or convert us to their world as ours transforms theirs. You can't have Nike, Coca-Cola, Beyonce, and Levis co-existing with Allah. He simply won't allow it. So if you don't want a city nuked, and all that will follow, remember. And act accordingly. Clinton, Albright, Berger, etc. all were unable to comprehend bin Laden's real danger and that of the wider Muslim world (he merely financed 9/11 as a sort of terrorist venture capitalist). That's the danger of forgetting.

#4: At the moment, yes, OK, but it's been five years since. Enough crying already, better think why that was allowed to happen. I find this all very maudlin and disingenuous. Stiff upper lip would be more adequate, in my opinion -- what's all the whining about? They punched you out, so live with it; better yet, cut their heads off in consolation. This shameful moment of unpreparedness is celebrated like it was some kind of major, defining, historic victory which is also tragic due to the heavy price was paid for it. C'mon, what's the glory here, it was a disaster. Last I checked, the events at Pearl Harbor in 1941 were still being memorialized and recounted. Stop for a moment and ask yourself why. That war is over. This one is not - and it is critically important to remember the reason we fight, the price of forgetfulness, and the magnitude of the failure in our failed pre-9/11 approaches. We will continue to run these on an annual basis. Broom. The American grieving process probably looks very strange to outsiders. First there's the anger. Then there is the singing and resolve. Then we start whining. Soon the real complaining and moaning begins, along with the conspiracy theorists. To keep all of this stirred up, every so often we remind ourselves of the pain -- the 1-year, the 5-year, the 10-year anniversaries. Later on Oliver Stone makes a movie. Somebody runs a few books claiming Elvis did it from a UFO. Eventually both sides of the debate (political, philosophical -- it's multidimensional) get tired of the subject. The finally we make a national holiday out of it and all go out for beers and fireworks. Right now we're somewhere between "complaining and moaning" and Oliver Stone. Stone made a movie, but since it did not have Elvis in it, it doesn't qualify. I'm stocking up on Elvis trinkets; getting ready for the big run on E-bay.

Joe, "Last I checked, the events at Pearl Harbor in 1941 were still being memorialized" -- somehow this 9/11 song and dance is different: sort of phoney and cloyed, from the first moment. Dignity and reserve would look better. Would be better. In addition, I don't think Pearl Harbour is done on the same scale and in the same tone... Maybe it's just me, but it all looks very corny and manufactured. Well, I'm repeating myself, so enough of that.

Broom, shrug Great job Joe. I've echoed some of this in the past. We must destroy the enemy and discredit the ideology of hate and Evil - Islamofascisim. Here's my two bits in this post: RBT

SPQR: "I suppose that some of us don't share your opinion." Well? I mean, I've never entertained an illusion of my opinions being universally accepted or obligatory. "Some don't share your opinion" is a given for anyone at any time on any issue. Did you want to say something? Yes. He wanted to say that we have reached an impasse where people simply disagree on the fundamentals, and no resolution is possible. I would recommend accepting this impasse as the effective end of this discussion, and moving on. Continued flogging of the issue beyond that point will lead people to wonder very deeply about your own level of emotional investment in this issue - and the honesty of the sentiments behind it.

What Joe said.

Well, I thought I bailed out on #9, before the advent of SPQR. However, if someone else has something to say on the topic, I see no problem with that. It won't be SPQR or Joe? I see no problem with that either. It won't be Broom, either. Broom, this is a polite request to leave this thread. If not followed, it will lead to measures that are far more sure, less polite, and more far-reaching within Winds as a whole.
#18 from Broom at 8:29 pm on Sep 13, 2006
Oh boy, I'm scared now. Jeez. Joe, you just have a knack of making an ass of yourself, don't you. Why would anyone worry about your "measures" on WoW? What's WoW? Even a brainless agitprop scribbler like yourself should realize that random passers by are of huge value to a propaganda-making outfit -- especially if they don't quite fit "the line"; otherwise the place looks too tightly scripted. Shutting them up is simply stupid: they don't care, but you end up looking bad. PS. Don't feel obligated to respond to this.
