Exclusive: "Moderate" Muslim Tariq Ramadan was detained, charged and ordered to trial in France after insulting a police officer

Tariq Ramadan, the so-called "moderate" Islamic "intellectual", was briefly detained and charged for "insulting a public agent" on Sunday at Paris Roissy Charles de Gaulle International Airport, while in transit to London.

From informed police sources, we have learned that when Ramadan tried to enter a prohibited area, a young policewoman stopped him. He began shouting at her and was then taken into police custody; the officer filed a complaint against him.

While in custody, he admitted the offense and was ordered to appear before a criminal court of Bobigny on April 6. Tariq Ramadan faces up to 6 months of imprisonment and 7,500 Euros of penalty.

A bit more information" on the poster boy of moderate Islam.

Some of the comments are rather interesting as well.

Sounds like a publicity stunt. He's had a new book out for over a month, but still no reviews at Amazon. Take a page from Paris Hilton, all publicity is good publicity. At least he didn't go with the sex tapes.

Or alternatively PD Shaw, Ramadan must for his own core audience demonstrate his "hardness" i.e. willingness to openly insult the infidel, particularly women.

Ramadan's core audience eats this stuff up.

This isn't for consumption by the Western Media (which suppressed it, not a word in the local paper) but his own Muslim audience which loves it's hard boys. The harder and more militant and more extreme the better.

While I'm no fan of Tariq...

I'm damned glad I don't live in France.

Here are some quick tips for adding simple Textile formatting to your comments, though you can also use proper HTML tags:

*This* puts text in bold.

_This_ puts text in italics.

bq. This "bq." at the beginning of a paragraph, flush with the left hand side and with a space after it, is the code to indent one paragraph of text as a block quote.

To add a live URL, "Text to display":http://windsofchange.net/ (no spaces between) will show up as Text to display. Always use this for links - otherwise you will screw up the columns on our main blog page.
