A special USMC birthday

| 7 Comments | 2 TrackBacks

Today is the 230th birthday of the US Marine Corps. I browsed to the USMC's main site to look for the commandant's message and paged through the photo gallery pages. It was an "ohmygosh!" moment to see this picture and caption on the third page or so:

CAMP FALLUJAH, Iraq – LCpl. Stephen Sensing, left, from Nashville, Tenn., and Sgt. Matthew Starr, Richmond, Minn., from 1st Platoon, 2nd Amphibious Assault Vehicle Company, 2nd Marine Division kick back prior to departing on an evening patrol Nov. 5. Kick ass! I hope to be that kind of proud Dad, too...

Wow! How cool is that?

How fine is that? Happy birthday USMC, thanks to all those who serve...and their families.

From a Vietnam Vet to my young Marine brothers:

Happy 230th Birthday Marines!!!

Your photo link is to a ".MIL" URL... There are lots of us who cannot connect to those websites, because of firewalls installed by the DOD.

I am a dependent of a DOD civilian employee, and there is a lot of information on .mil sites that would be VERY useful to me. Alas, only my sponsor can get to that info, through the work-computer!

Let me extend my thanks and gratitude to all Marine's out there on this 230th birthday!

Semper Fi to all and best of luck where ever you are.

For those that have an interest General Pace appeared on the Jim Lehrer News Hour a few days ago. He gave an outstanding interview and handled himself with the utmost composure, tact, professionalism and pride that all Marines bring to the table. It is well worth listening to in my opinion.

General Peter Pace

About half way down the page there is a link to the video.

Did "all Marines" include Major General Smedley Butler?

Here are some quick tips for adding simple Textile formatting to your comments, though you can also use proper HTML tags:

*This* puts text in bold.

_This_ puts text in italics.

bq. This "bq." at the beginning of a paragraph, flush with the left hand side and with a space after it, is the code to indent one paragraph of text as a block quote.

To add a live URL, "Text to display":http://windsofchange.net/ (no spaces between) will show up as Text to display. Always use this for links - otherwise you will screw up the columns on our main blog page.
