Announcing Milbloggies 2005

Milbloggies.com

Bloggies? Well, now we have Milbloggies. It's time to shine a spotlight on the best Milbloggers of 2005. What are the Milbloggies? Inspired by the Bloggies, Milblogging.com is announcing the Milbloggies. The Milbloggies are an annual award ceremony celebrating milblogging around the world. And of course, through the Milbloggies, you’ll be able to find some of the best milblogs on the internet.

Which Milblogs Can Be Nominated?

Any military blog listed in the Milblogging.com database is eligible for nomination. If a milblog is missing from the database, you may submit it to Milblogging.com. Or, if a milblog isn't categorized correctly, let us know and we'll fix it right away. Over 600 milblogs are currently listed in the Milblogging.com database, all you have to do - is vote.

Why did Milblogging.com create the Milbloggies?

Milblogs are extremely important. They offer a firsthand account of life back home, of day-to-day living in a war zone, and much much more. It's an opportunity to help highlight the importance of milblogging in today's culture, and connect people with milblogs, while spotlighting the best milbloggers on the internet.

How do I vote?

To vote, simply Register a FREE account with Milblogging.com. Sign in. Then, vote for your favorite milblogs by clicking "Add to Favorites" in your Milblogging.com account. It's that easy. You can only register one Milblogging.com account, but you can vote for as many milblogs as you'd like. Each milblog belongs to exactly one Category, so by voting for a milblog, you're voting for the milblog to win it's Category AND the title of Ultimate Milbloggie.

What are the Categories?

The contest is currently divided into the following categories (branches):

Ultimate Milbloggie. It's the milbog that garners the most overall votes in the Milblogging.com "Top 100" chart. But wait, there's more...

Best U.S. Army Milbloggie. It's the milblog written by any Active member of the Army (yes, that includes Guard and Reserve) that garners the most overall votes in the Milblogging.com database for Branch: U.S. Army.

Best U.S. Air Force Milbloggie. It's the milblog written by any Active member of the Airforce that garners the most overall votes in the Milblogging.com database for Branch: U.S. Airforce.

Best U.S. Coast Guard Milbloggie. It's the milblog written by any Active member of the Coast Guard that garners the most overall votes in the Milblogging.com database for Branch: U.S. Coast Guard.

Best U.S. Marine Corps Milbloggie. It's the milblog written by any Active member of the Marine Corps that garners the most overall votes in the Milblogging.com database for Branch: U.S. Marine Corps.

Best U.S. Navy Milbloggie. It's the milblog written by any Active member of the Navy that garners the most overall votes in the Milblogging.com database for Branch: U.S. Navy.

Best U.S. Military (Spouse) Milbloggie. It's the milblog written by any spouse of an Active member of the military that garners the most overall votes in the Milblogging.com database for Branch: U.S. Military (Spouse).

Best U.S. Military (Veteran) Milbloggie. It's the milblog written by any Veteran (Non-active member of the Military) that garners the most overall votes in the Milblogging.com database for Branch: U.S. Military (Veteran).

Best U.S. Civilian Milbloggie. It's the milblog written by any civilian (who has not served in the Military but writes a milblog) that garners the most overall votes in the Milblogging.com database for Branch: U.S. Civilian.

And yes, you can submit ideas for additional categories. I mean, Milblogging.com has over 600 milblogs catalogued, so if you really want to have a "Best Milblog written from Iraq by a U.S. Army National Guard Soldier whose first name begins with an "A" and whose favorite color is..." You get the idea. We'll consider it. However, all categories must be submitted for consideration no later than November 30, 2005.

You can go to the By Branch report or Advanced Search to find your favorite milblog in the Milblogging.com database.

What are the Prizes?

Now, keep in mind, the Host of the Milbloggies is not made of money. Or, at least his paycheck that he gets every 2 weeks reminds him of that. However, the Ultimate Milbloggie will receive a check for $50, a Professionally Designed Logo with the Title of Ultimate Milbloggie, and of course bragging rights for a full year as the Ultimate Milbloggie. That's right kids, it doesn't get better than that. And you can do whatever you'd like with your winnings. (Donate donate donate). Joking. Well, half joking. Hey, it's your winnings.

All other first place finishers in their respective categories will receive a $25 check, a Professionally Designed Logo with the Title of their respective category and bragging rights in their category.

How do I Donate Prizes?

If you’d like to donate prizes to the winners of any categories, please contact us. You can donate $1,000,000,000 (or whatever you deem appropriate).

What are the Ground Rules?

1. It's simple. All votes must be in by midnight, December 31st 2005.
2. You may nominate any milblog in the Milblogging.com database. If a milblog is not listed, please submit it to the database. If a milblog isn't categorized correctly, contact us.
3. The milblogger who obtains the highest number of votes in their category will be declared the winner of that category.
4. The milblogger who wins the highest number of votes in the Top 100, will be crowned, Ultimate Milbloggie.
5. In the event of a tie, the Milbloggies sponsors will cast the tiebreaking votes. Note: Sponsors are not eligible for the contest.
6. The rules are subject to change during the month of November, and so are the prizes. Hey, stuff happens...
7. The Golden RULE. No, absolutely NO registering 2,345,675 different Milblogging accounts under the same name. We can track these violations.

How do I track the contest?

We will be adding dynamic charts that will display the cumulative number of votes cast by category. Check out the other charts on Milblogging.com's left sidebar for an example. The charts will be displayed by Decemeber 1, 2005.

Here are some quick tips for adding simple Textile formatting to your comments, though you can also use proper HTML tags:

*This* puts text in bold.

_This_ puts text in italics.

bq. This "bq." at the beginning of a paragraph, flush with the left hand side and with a space after it, is the code to indent one paragraph of text as a block quote.

To add a live URL, "Text to display":http://windsofchange.net/ (no spaces between) will show up as Text to display. Always use this for links - otherwise you will screw up the columns on our main blog page.
