Mr. Blue requested some puppy pictures. This young lady's name is Onyx:

Onyx belongs to one of the trainers at the horse farm. She's a lab mix, rather obviously, and well suited to life on the farm. (Better than the barn cat, who sleeps right under the horses' feet sometimes.)

What a good dog.
If you'd like to see what she looks like from atop one of the horses, you can view this image. As you can see from her tiny little legs at the top of the frame, it's important that she stay out of the way on her own. You and the horse might both miss her (or rather, not miss her, in the horse's case).
Onyx seems to understand that, and has always been well behaved. She's a friendly girl, just as you'd expect.

Looks just like my "Sally". Who is now eight
years old, and still follows me around like
a puppy. I got her when she was a year old,
and been totally neglected by a high school
girl who "had to have a puppy".
Sally begs for love all the time. She gets it.
Sally, in return, delivers UNCONDITIONAL love
ALL the time. She never needs a chain. Or a
fence. Or, a lease. I only put her on a lease
when it's "needed" in public.
If I let her out of my pickup, and grab the lease,
she sits immediately. And, is all excited because
we're going to be doing "something fun".
When I'm gone, she just sits on my north porch
watching for me to drive over the ridge 300
yards to the north. She knows my Corvette and
runs down to greet me, and races me up my hill
to the garage.
She has to wait for my pickup to turn up my
drive. Too many pickups in this area. {:^)
Labs and Lab mixes make wonderful dogs.
Nothing beats a good dog to make you feel good.
Nothing.
I see ears that are just begging for a nice scratch...
Sigh
Yes, well my dog won't be 'missed' by any horse.
Ahhh, cute puppy
LOL, not mine.
PS: Always love your great blog.
What cute pictures! What an excellent puppy Onyx is!
Dan Pursel #1: you made my morning. Nothing beats a good dog to make you feel good.
I'm inclined to think that just as dogs have adapted to us from the earliest times, we have adapted to them. It's been an evolutionary advantage to love a really good dog right back. And we do.
Thanks for the pictures.
I am still mourning the recent loss of my best friend of 17 years, Levi Lou.
I tried to put a photo in but could not.
Gads how I wish I could have a dog or several. Alas, I am alone, and do a lot of traveling, so it is out of the question. I am hoping that after retirement I can have a dawg or several. And I mean real dogs, like labs, or rotties, or shepards, or a border collie. Something with some brains, some spirit, and some size.
I really wish I could have some bears around, but know they are not something to have as pets. Maybe just as neighbors, but still...
Reality says it will be dogs, so dogs it will be.
Cute Lab. And well behaved??
Having raised 7 labs over the years I don't recall any that were very well behaved as puppies.
I always said god made them so cute so you wouldn't kill them in the first year!
