Just returned from the Dave Matthews Band concert at Ontario Place last night. Great music, some wonderful company, and a band whose tight musicianship and harmonic explorations make them masters at the art of crafting musical ideas that sweep you along in their train. And we were. And we danced. And we sang, a crowd in tune with itself and the music, adding its counterpoint to the performers. And it was good. Two and a half hours of beautyjoysoul that was uniquely theirs - and wholly ours, as they played the music only they can play.
Your life is a song, art on a different stage. Play the music that only you can play.

More poetry from DMB
"Saddam Hussein is a barbaric murderous dictator. I wish the world were free of him. But the answer is not to bomb this great culture of Iraq out of existence to stop him ... It is criminal to put our servicemen and women in harm's way ... for the misguided frustrations of the Bush administration." Dave Matthews

I'm not a huge Matthews fan, but my girlfriend is, so I get by by acknowledging their fantastic musicanship (even as I detest the endless-jam genre of jazz-pop).
But if I had to shun every musician (to say nothing of actor) that offended me politically, I'd be limited to listening to Ted Nugent, Willy Deville, and Johnny Ramone.
Love the art. Ignore the artist.
I saw them in Hartford on Saturday and Sunday. No better way to close out the summer than with DMB and 30,000 or so fans.
DMB is a great band. Very musical in their concernts, unlike some bands out there these days. They actually "play" their music, versus other bands this just go through the motions to draw the paycheck.
Dave is OK by me.
He toured with the Dead for a while. In the band.
My drummer boy is a big fan and saw DMB at Alpine Valley, WI.
