BBC and other sources report that British police have evacuated 20,000 people from the entertainment and Chinese sections of downtown Birmingham Saturday evening due to intelligence reports of a security risk there. Other sources are reporting "controlled explosions", possibly the police detonating bombs that could not be safely removed otherwise.
More from the Winds of Change team as the story unfolds. Police are suggesting this is unconnected to the London attacks, and it is true that Birmingham has been bombed by the IRA in years past. On the other hand, an attack on a main entertainment district on Saturday does tend to remind one of the attacks on Bali.

Well, TJ, if you've read Churchill's memoirs and the accounts of the British high staff then you know that his actions in WWII were not based on hate -- white hot anger, but not hate.

There were three arrests at Heathrow today. The police aren't giving any more details than that.
Also, there is a report that police shot and killed two suicide bombers on Thursday near Canary Wharf.

I believe that the birmingham evacuations (which I witnessed) with armed police on the streets, helicopters buzzing low overhead and the whole city centre evacuated were a "show of strength" by the authorites to keep the fear level high and the population on-side in the "war against terror" as were the tanks deployed around Heathrow in response to similar "intelligence" when 2 million attended the march against the iraq invasion in London. There were no bombs discovered, al quaida does not give warnings and when an actual IRA car bomb was discovered in the city centre 4 years ago only a small area was evacuated http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/1636919.stm . Keep things in perspective and dont give in to paranoia and fear that can be manipulated by dark forces in our own society.
