Canadians Find Massive Afghan Weapons Cache

Good job, guys!

"Canadian soldiers attached to the Afghan National Army (ANA) have stirred up a hornet's nest in Kabul by being too efficient.

They've "discovered" a huge Soviet ammunition dump a few kilometres from Camp Julien with the potential of obliterating the camp, as well as most of Kabul."

...and what do you know, France is involved.

Joe, you should be reading The Glittering Eye—I had this story a week ago.

Should have. Sorry I missed it.

For me this story was suggestive of a substantial difference in mindset between what we might assume and what our erstwhile allies consider normal operating procedure.

We Canadians are setting an example to the world, you dont mess around with us or we will prevail with "coalition of the willing."
My brother is needed to clean up demolition mess left by the American Navy after WW II off the west coast of Florida. Just like he was needed to clean up the mess left by Saddam Hussien's army invasion of Kuwait in 1991 Persian Gulf War.

Joe,

according to this thread at the Canadain army forum the article is quite misleading:

http://army.ca/forums/index.php/topic,21559.0.html

It seems that there was no Swedish UN official,
nor a German colonel, and the weapon's cache was also much smaller than reported. And the French allegedly have a legitimate role disarming the bombs and the single (not several) FROG.

After reading the thread on the Canadian Army forum and several of Mr. Worthington's reports from Afghanistan, it seems like he might just have been pumping a small story into a big fat anti-foreigner diatribe.

His writing style reminded me of a NY Post columnist named Steve Dunleavey. Both are of the school of journalism that stresses the rule: "All our boys are the bravest and the bestest, the enemies are all brutal monsters, and our allies are weak and perfidious and cause any failure we might have (because our boys never fail to accomplish their missions)."

Sometimes those guys get the story right, and sometimes they don't. Always have to view them with a jaundiced eye.

Dear Canadian hey!
Respecfully, I am not agreeing with you.
We missed the boat to join our best frriend on something greater than us.

Here are some quick tips for adding simple Textile formatting to your comments, though you can also use proper HTML tags:

*This* puts text in bold.

_This_ puts text in italics.

bq. This "bq." at the beginning of a paragraph, flush with the left hand side and with a space after it, is the code to indent one paragraph of text as a block quote.

To add a live URL, "Text to display":http://windsofchange.net/ (no spaces between) will show up as Text to display. Always use this for links - otherwise you will screw up the columns on our main blog page.
