Welcome! Our goal at Winds of Change.NET is to give you one power-packed briefing of insights, news and trends from the global War on Terror that leaves you stimulated, informed, and occasionally amused every Monday & Thursday. Thursday's Winds of War briefings are given by me, Colt, of Eurabian Times.
TOP TOPICS
- A good profile of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi from USA Today: Zarqawi 'the next generation of al-Qaeda'.
- Die Welt reports that Syria has tested chemical weapons on Sudanese civilians in Darfur. It apparently marks the beginning of increased co-operation in the field of WMD between the two states. (We should not jump to the conclusion that the munitions used were Iraqi. Syria has had its own production facilities for decades.)
- Ayman al-Zawahiri, al-Qaeda #2, has released a video to mark 9/11.
- What sort of support does Osama Bin Laden have in the Muslim world? Polls are rarely conclusive, but this one from Pew gives us real reason to be concerned - especially if you happen to be a Christian in an Islamic country.
Other Topics Today Include: Iran reports; domestic briefing; Jakarta breakthrough; Dagestani terrorists killed; GSPC - still a threat to Algeria; Japan introduces sky marshals; nuclear Syria?; Israel vs. P.L.O.; Brit shot dead in Saudi Arabia; China sentences 'terrorists'; Osama sweepstakes.
IRAN REPORTS
- Are Iran's nuclear ambitions peaceful? Apparently, that isn't yet clear to the I.A.E.A.
- Meanwhile, Iran is staging exercises along the Iran-Iraq border, comprising hundreds of thousandsof Revolutionary Guards.
- Iran wants to co-operate with the Syrians to, quote, confront the propaganda of western broadcasting corporations against the world of Islam.
- A new study says a nuclear Iran would sponsor more terrorism.
- Israeli military intelligence says Iran will no longer need outside help to build nuclear weapons in six months.
DOMESTIC SECURITY BRIEFINGS
- The Muslim Brotherhood: friend of foe?
- A lot of arrests in Europe this last week... 10 in Spain...
- ...5 in France...
- ...and an unknown number in the Netherlands, despite the Dutch kinder, gentler plan for terrorism.
- A new witness says Mounir el Motassadeq met with four of the 9/11 hijackers - but his testimony is said to be contradictory.
THE WIDER WAR
- Jakarta police have made a breakthrough in their hunt for the terrorists responsible for the attack on the Australian embassy.
- A group of 50 terrorists in Dagestan have been killed. Alas, it looks like Putin will use the Beslan attack as a pretext to tighten his grip on power.
- The Algerians are trying to extradite Amari Saifi, a senior GSPC leader, from Chad. While the group has been seriously hurt these last two years or so, they're not finished yet.
- Japan will begin to introduce sky-marshals.
- Nuclear Syria? Maybe one day.
- An al-Aksa commander is iced in Jenin, a Ramallah Hamas cell is cracked, a Bedoiun Hamas cell is dismantled, a suicide bomber on a bicycle wounds three Israeli soldiers, and nine more terrorists are killed in other operations. Oh, and Hamas says the Israeli left encouraged them to attack.
- A Brit has been shot dead in Saudi Arabia.
- China has sentenced 50 people to death for terrorism.
- I'm not sure if this is a parody, but if you think the GOP has stashed Osama somewhere, why not enter this sweepstake?

Colt, great roundup. To get the image link not to be broken, edit your entry and put the fully qualified path to it in the src= attribute. So <img src=http://windsofchange.net/files/print.gif>
Oops. that's <img src=http://windsofchange.net/files/print.gif />, of course :-) It's not broken on the front page because the relative path to the image (/files/print.gif) leads to the right place on the front page. But on the individual entry archive it's trying to go to /archives/files/print.gif, a place that doesn't exist :-)
I am really smoking crack. You need quotes surrounding the path to the image, too. Sorry to do three friggin' comments about this completely inconsequential matter.
Thanks, evariste.
That Miami Herald article on dutch terrorism measures is a bit outdated. Several days before they published their article about how the dutch refuse to accept any civil liberties decreases in the battle against terror new measures were announced.
