Dear Mr. Fantasy: An Historic Night in Baseball

| 8 Comments | 1 TrackBack

The final out is headed to first. The impossible dream, the magical history tour, is now reality. A week ago, there was talk of 2 League Championship sweeps. A week ago, we forgot that events have their own timetable and the schedules aren't published. A week ago, the Astros-Cardinals series hadn't yet turned into rip-roaring drama with duelling walk-off home runs. A week ago, the Boston Red Sox hadn't even begun to play the greatest set of games in franchise history.

Dear Mister Fantasy play us a tune
Something to make us all happy
Do anything take us out of this gloom
Sing a song, play guitar
Make it snappy
You are the one who can make us all laugh
But doing that you break out in tears
Please don't be sad if it was a straight mind you had
We wouldn't have known you all these years

No baseball team had ever come back from 0-3 to win a series. No-one had even forced a Game 7. Tonight, in the very heart of their eternal bane, the Red Sox made their fans' wildest fantasies real.

A week is a long time.

Update - POSTCARDS FROM THE BLOGS:

  • Over in New York, Michele is pretty gracious. She also has the Quote of the Day with this one: "I'm more on the bitter side. The Yankees choked like Mama Cass." Amusing T-shirt design, too.

WELL SHIT from chiasm.blog-city.com
Excerpt: Well, SHIT. Congratulations to the Red Sox and their fans, I am sure they are fucking enjoying this. I hope things 'work out' for you guys in the Series. Yeah. Right. As for the Yankees, let's cut through all the 'it was a good season' b

still one mountain to climb...with stephen king documenting this season there is only one way it can end...the horror creator himself will end the curse

This is in no way an indication that the curse is off! The curse shall remain in effect until further notice from above!

steinbrenner's torn the heart and soul out of this team, run it into the ground just like he did during the early 80s. it's still a winning team, but it's got no chemistry, no guts, and every year there'll be a couple more fading, high-priced vets hoping to play on a contender, a couple fewer prospects vying for spots on the roster, a few less wins, going a little less deep into the playoffs... this team just didn't have the heart to get themselves back into this series. Boston has guts, heart, chemistry, cojones in spades, and I gotta give them the credit they're due, but I really fucking hope they lose the Series (although if they win maybe steinbrenner will explode or something...).

The curse operates on the "principle of maximum heartbreak". This is all part of the plan.

god I hope so.

it WOULD be pretty sweet (and by 'sweet' I mean 'heartbreaking') if Clemens gets to stick it in, come to think of it.

Classy post, Joe.

Maximum Heartbreak! Wind Rider likes the concept of “Maximum Heartbreak” as it relates to Boston!

Well, John, it's 2-1 Houston in the 6th tonight - so you might get your wish.

Here are some quick tips for adding simple Textile formatting to your comments, though you can also use proper HTML tags:

*This* puts text in bold.

_This_ puts text in italics.

bq. This "bq." at the beginning of a paragraph, flush with the left hand side and with a space after it, is the code to indent one paragraph of text as a block quote.

To add a live URL, "Text to display":http://windsofchange.net/ (no spaces between) will show up as Text to display. Always use this for links - otherwise you will screw up the columns on our main blog page.
