Dodgers & Cards 2004: Class on the Field

The Los Angeles got a reprieve on Saturday, thanks to Lima Time! Despite Lima's thankful and impassioned post-game letter to Dodger fans, the Dodgers couldn't stop the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 4.

Truth is, these results weren't unexpected. What was unexpected was the aftermath, as the two teams lined up on the field to shake each others' hands. I see this all the time in hockey, but never in baseball. To me, it was noteworthy - and worth applauding for its class.

I agree. Just don't expect it to happen at the end of the Red Sox/Yankee series. Go Sox!

Well maybe there is hope for Major League baseball yet. I have to confess though I have not followed MLB for a bit of a spell and I don't think I'll get into it again at all. I became disenfranchised when the MLB went on strike and left the fans hanging in the wind (was an Angels fan at the time). Then when I decided to get back into MLB Roberto Alomar spits on the ump. What did MLB do about it? Practically nothing of any worth or note. Since then I’ve resolved myself to stay away from MLB.

I’ll admit I’m an avid NASCAR fan. I was 16 when I got involved in racing at the local track. It has always been good family fun and I take my kids to local track here often. They enjoy it just as much if not more so than I do.

I have to admit I’ve had a lot of reservations watching the sport lose it’s roots to commercialization. Last week my concerns as to whether NASCAR could remain true to it’s foundations and family values were once again affirmed. Dale Earnhardt Jr was fined $10,000 and 25 points for using foul language during the post race interviews.

It will be interesting to see if NASCAR caves in on the deduction of points and gives them back. There is some driver support in stating that the fine is sufficient but the deduction of points is excessive. This penalty however is being applied consistently as it has been levied on drivers in the Busch series earlier in the year. Dale’s compliant by the way is I didn’t say it anger. Dale and his team are appealing the decision.

Due to these antics NASCAR has now gone the way of the NFL and is broadcasting on a 5 second delay instead of live. NASCAR is taking a stand in stating the rule book applies and will not be rewritten to suit commercialization wants. For those that follow NASCAR the 25 point deduction may well cost Dale the championship. I can only hope that someday MLB will clean up its’ act then maybe I’ll start watching again.

Here are some quick tips for adding simple Textile formatting to your comments, though you can also use proper HTML tags:

*This* puts text in bold.

_This_ puts text in italics.

bq. This "bq." at the beginning of a paragraph, flush with the left hand side and with a space after it, is the code to indent one paragraph of text as a block quote.

To add a live URL, "Text to display":http://windsofchange.net/ (no spaces between) will show up as Text to display. Always use this for links - otherwise you will screw up the columns on our main blog page.
