Email Attacks Too?

by Joe Katzman at October 22, 2003 8:31 PM

Commenter and Guest Blogger Robin Burke brought us some disturbing news today:

"Also, watch your own email. An email account I've used for posting comments here and at related blogs has sustained multiple virus attacks with Islamic slogans in the last few days.

Anyone else having similar attacks? It would be interesting to know if the email address was harvested with a script (in which case others were probably attacked too) or by hand in response to someone who took exception to an opinion I wrote." [Posted by rkb at October 22, 2003 08:22 PM]

If she's not alone, this is important. Use the comments below to let us know... but don't use your real email address!

If the As-Sahwab clowns are dropping E-Mail bombs with Islamic sloganry, they're dumber than I thought. Understand, the type of activity that they are engaging in is hardly all that difficult for someone who knows what they're doing.

My McAfee reported yesterday AM that it had found a virus and removed it.

Interesting that they are finally attacking anti-ROPMA blogs and their hosts. Surprised it took them so long.

#4 from saunabiber at 1:01 am on Oct 23, 2003

you wish you were important. as if al-qaeda gives a toss about some irrelevant redneck internet circle-jerk.

#5 from Kaveh at 1:23 am on Oct 23, 2003

As long as there's no real life on the net for them to take, let them play. It's better than them planning for the real thing.

#6 from Joe Katzman at 1:58 am on Oct 23, 2003

Kaveh, it isn't either/or for the jihadists. It's both/and.

We shall not "let them" do anything - hunt them wherever they are, without respite. And if I had my druthers, without mercy.

I got an odd email from someone who thought I was Stephen Green (Vodkapundit), who is one of the many sites that got shut down. I've forwarded it to him to see if he can make any sense of it. (No, no attachments; I'm not about to pass on any viruses!)

#8 from David Blue at 7:10 am on Oct 23, 2003

Hi.

I got one of those Vodkapundit things too. I didn't pass the news on. Why waste someone's time?

I strongly agree with Joe Katzman that in dealing with jihadists, even the most trivial, no clash is so petty that it's a good idea to give way. Let them give way. We should concede them nothing, and never give them a break unless it's their necks. In general, in war, whatever my enemy wants, he can't have, including the unimportant pleasure of taking cheap shots with impunity. Also, the way these guys think, everything, no matter how seemingly petty, can be jihad, and anything they get away with can be an inspiration to do something a bit less trivial next time.

#9 from Anthony Phillips at 5:25 pm on Dec 30, 2006

Hi

Too mush nonsense is made of these threats by Jihadists and Muslims. Thye have no clout or power. Levels of intelligence are reasonably low and thus the virtual e-mail comms are not effective - good news for us all on the net.

Any comments please forward to:

Thanks for listening!

Here are some quick tips for adding simple Textile formatting to your comments, though you can also use proper HTML tags:

*This* puts text in bold.

_This_ puts text in italics.

bq. This "bq." at the beginning of a paragraph, flush with the left hand side and with a space after it, is the code to indent one paragraph of text as a block quote.

To add a live URL, "Text to display":http://windsofchange.net/ (no spaces between) will show up as Text to display. Always use this for links - otherwise you will screw up the columns on our main blog page.

Finally, note that a constant onslaught of Trackback spams from auto-generated blogspot blogs has forced Winds to ban the blogspot.com domain from use in comments or trackbacks. If you host on blogspot, consider moving; otherwise, the complaints need to be directed at Google not us.
