Worldchanging.com has recently run a series of articles on greening trends in home living. One positive sign, for instance, is the growing popularity of mansions designed for energy efficiency. Not only will these techniques be commoditized and passed on, but their presence in the lifestyles of the rich and famous creates the potential to influence home fashion trends.
Clarum Homes near Monterey has already created the Enviro-Home, and built a whole community of them in Watsonville, CA called "Vista Montana." Upscale hybrids, zero-toxics furniture, local food movements, et. al. come with these trends, and are definitely headed for the bo-bo set. There are even furniture and decorative items out there designed for energy awareness: "flower lamps," "energy curtains," etc.

Habitat for Humanity is also now building solar and other energy source homes, here and abroad. And wouldn't that be a good solution to save the disadvantaged from having power cut off!
