Iran blocks thousands of Web sites

| No Comments | 1 TrackBack

At the time the most important thing for Iranian bloggers & actually all users of Internet in Iran is the recent problem of blocking websites by government. Here is the report of ABC:

"The Iranian authorities have banned several dozen websites for political and pornographic content, including those of US radio stations broadcasting in Farsi.

"One hundred illegal websites are blocked," Post and Telecommunications Minister Ahmad Motamedi was quoted as saying in the reformist newspaper Yass-e No.

"There are websites that insult the beliefs of different religions," the minister argued to explain the ban.

According to other press reports the number of Internet websites on the official blacklist is much higher."

Everyone is angry about it but there is no way expect having a cyber fight, although they might change their method & act harder about Internet sites specially political bloggers, like Sina Motallebi that actually was the first one to be sacrificed in this new battle, But thanks god that people still have the chance of writing with nicknames & the government still doesn't have that mush power to control everything & arrest anyone who writes anything that they don't like...

Anyway, at the time they have started & have also made a list of some sites, that as Hossein Derakhshan writes There are different sayings about the real number of blacklisted websites, from 30 to 11,000, he has also made a forum for people inside Iran to report the sites that are blocked & the name of ISPs & is working hard on this matter that is really important.

Update: Sina Motallebi was released some minutes ago, but the struggle for freedom still continues...

Here are some quick tips for adding simple Textile formatting to your comments, though you can also use proper HTML tags:

*This* puts text in bold.

_This_ puts text in italics.

bq. This "bq." at the beginning of a paragraph, flush with the left hand side and with a space after it, is the code to indent one paragraph of text as a block quote.

To add a live URL, "Text to display":http://windsofchange.net/ (no spaces between) will show up as Text to display. Always use this for links - otherwise you will screw up the columns on our main blog page.
