Hippercritical has a good news story about the latest winner of Israel's "American Idol" type TV show. Israelis voted for... Israeli Arab contestant Firas Khoury. Hippercritical sees Khoury as someone who might be able to break down some barriers to acceptance and understanding, much as Sammy Davis Jr. did in the USA.
I don't know about that, but I do know that this is a nice story and that Khoury seems to have his head and heart screwed on straight. Which makes his story worth reading all by itself.

I find it significant that he is an Arab Christian, not an Arab Muslim. With some exceptions, the Christians in the region are much more open to co-existence. Also, they are persecuted by the Muslim fundamentalists and have a stake in pluralistic Israeli society being successful.
