Judith Curry on "Hiding the Decline"

I know I'm breaking my promise not to write about this tar baby any more (apologies directly to Chris), but the comments threads under these two posts by Judith Curry are too fascinating not to point out.

Hiding the Decline

Hiding the Decline: Part II

Some great (as well as not so great) back-and-forth. This is exactly the kind of conversation I'd hoped we could have had here.

When I posted this, I did not expect a particularly big response, since all of this is pretty much an old, hashed over topic in the climate blogosphere.

Exactly so. There is some good research going on out there, however, and I expect things will improve in the not too distant future.

Apropos reproducible research and the Berkeley Earth Project, there were some talks about reproducible research at the AAAS 2011 meeting. Some notes are here.

Marc,

Very interesting, thanks for posting this.

And you know... I realize you made a promise, but given that fact that Chris's Gavinesque condescension to the rest of us was one of the main reasons we couldn't have this kind of conversation here, it really grates that you're offering him an apology.

Tar baby?

n.
A situation or problem from which it is virtually impossible to disentangle oneself

Well, if you accept the playground they are offering, I am sure you won't find the answer.

I didn't accepted it, as I posted, and I disentangled myself. However I don't like to publish my post again, I'd rather leave you a link to Mr. Crichton superb explanation:

Aliens Cause Global Warming: A Caltech Lecture, by Michael Crichton

And the rest is just piling up wood for the bonfire.

Here are some quick tips for adding simple Textile formatting to your comments, though you can also use proper HTML tags:

*This* puts text in bold.

_This_ puts text in italics.

bq. This "bq." at the beginning of a paragraph, flush with the left hand side and with a space after it, is the code to indent one paragraph of text as a block quote.

To add a live URL, "Text to display":http://windsofchange.net/ (no spaces between) will show up as Text to display. Always use this for links - otherwise you will screw up the columns on our main blog page.
