When my wife first mentioned this to me, I confess to wondering why a governor would take the time to pry a seat loose from the legislative chamber. I supposed that it might fetch something on eBay given its historical value, but...
In retrospect, Mr. "sure, go ahead and wiretap me" might as well have used eBay for this. And gee, what a surprise. A guy who ran as a Democrat, and promised clean government, is headed to jail. Where he may commiserate with his GOP predecessor, George Homer Ryan.
That's the Chicago Way, ya know. And why it's important to have, and to examine, candidate political records, before believing such promises. From anyone. Think of it as the "Moneyball" theory of politics. If you want to know what someone will do, it's very likely to be extremely similar to what they've done before.

Iowahawk has the eBay angle covered already. But maybe you knew that. PS: Warning: text in the linked-to screenshots contains au'tennick Chicaggah crude (talk).
Since I voted for Blagojevich in 2002 (and Edwin Edwards in 1991), there are always circumstances, like who they are running against. Blagojevich said a few months ago that despite lower approval ratings in Illinois than George W Bush, he would still win re-election. Until this week, he might. Until Blago, the Republicans controlled the Governorship for 26 years. What happened?
I think a lot of the problems are common throughout the country -- local and regional collapse of two-party systems, gerrymandering, lack of attention to local and state elections, including primary competitions, the focus on campaign skills over political skills, collusion by political elites . . .
Sometimes, you just get a bad egg Veruca.
Fair points.
