7-0 losers. Against the worst team in baseball. On Opening Day. With last year's Cy Young Award winner on the mound for the Jays. Oh, the embarassment.
One blogger had predicted the possibility of trouble, but obviously the warning signs were ignored. Mind you, at least we didn't start our season on a losing note by coughing up 6 runs in the 9th inning (Chicago White Sox). Or blowing a 3 run lead, then giving up the winning run in the 9th without giving up a hit (Houston Astros).
Hey, there's always tomorrow...

Actually, when the Blue Jays lose on opening day, the team has a good season. It is a shame it was a 7-0 loss but a win not be good news.
Still plenty of room on our bandwagon.
And those great new uniforms - they looked so good and played so awful. Oh well!
Wazzzuupppp.
Go Tigers!!!
The Tigers now have the same record as they had, at this point in the season, in 1984. A harbinger of things to come?
I've seen several posts on this site about baseball. Each declares the end of the world is near because of one game. You do realize that the season is 162 games right?
Go Evil Empire!
Well, at least my Orioles and Padres are currently in first or tied for first in their respective divisions! I would say that one of those teams has decidedly brighter prospects this season than the other, though....
I'm not a big b ball fan, but I live in Tiger territory. They have made a lot of moves to improve from last season, but don't dispair. Detroit sports fans will pay good money to watch their teams win or loose. The front office knows they don't need to blow a lot of cash for talent when the dollars come in anyway. That explains the Lions too.
So it's a harbinger of the Padres making the World Series?
Ahh, the White Sox. Almost makes me glad that the 1994 strike cured me of investing too much emotion in my baseball team.
Jeff,
Real fans do live and die with their teams. This isn't the end of the season for my Jays, but it IS embarassing.
FYI: If you go to our SPORTS: Baseball Category Archive, I think you'll see a pretty good balance - except for certain Sox and Cubs games that really were the end of the world for those teams, and some good natured funnin' with Allah.
Joe,
Clearly I was just ribbing you. I'm a Yanks fan living in Boston. So every year in May I hear that the Sox are going to win the World Series. And every year I tell my friends to relax and wait till August to brag (which of course they never can). So I just naturally roll my eyes when anyone extrapolates the end of the season in the first 60 games.
Remember Baseball Fans: The Apocalypse could still occur in October: Cubs vs. Red Sox.
Gregory,
A new ball park brightens up anybody's prospects. At least until they learn how much parking costs in downtown San Diego.
Considering how the Dodgers have done the past few years, I expect the Padres will open their first home series at Petco Park 2-1 with decent stats.
Uh-oh. Tigers made it two in a row last night over yer beloved Jays. That makes the Tigers roughly a month ahead of last year's pace.....
Swept. 7-0, 7-3, 6-3.
Now I'm REALLY embarassed.
