Pallywood: Getting inside the news cycle

| No Comments | 1 TrackBack

The Israeli government seems to have learned something from the Palestinian PR manipulations of Muhammed al-Dura and Jenin and Sharon's walk on the Temple Mount, where lies sprinted several times around the globe before truth shuffled out of bed. Decades of relentless guilt-mongering from the UN, NGOs, and Israel's former buddy the Left, reawakened the reflexive shtetl crouch in which one eagerly accepts blame and then tries to find out the truth after everyone has stopped listening and moved onto the next scandal.

Perhaps the naming and study of the phenomenon itself has made it easier for constantly scapegoated Jews and Israelis to take their own side, just as educating about the mechanism of manipulation helps victims of emotionally abuse learn how to differentiate reality from their abusers' lies.

Now the Israeli government goes on the offense a bit more quickly, getting inside the news media's decision cycle. If it turns out they were wrong, they'll correct themselves and apologize later. Just as the Palestinians have been doing it, long after everyone has stopped listening and moved onto the next scandal.

(Most of the links in the post are to Solomonia, who has been tracking this issue like a hawk. Read all of them. And of course, Augean Stables, originators of the term "Pallywood," thoroughly dissects the evidence.)

UPDATE: Lies are still lacing up their trainers, pumping up for this week's race. As usual, it's a marathon - who will get winded first?

Here are some quick tips for adding simple Textile formatting to your comments, though you can also use proper HTML tags:

*This* puts text in bold.

_This_ puts text in italics.

bq. This "bq." at the beginning of a paragraph, flush with the left hand side and with a space after it, is the code to indent one paragraph of text as a block quote.

To add a live URL, "Text to display":http://windsofchange.net/ (no spaces between) will show up as Text to display. Always use this for links - otherwise you will screw up the columns on our main blog page.
