Passover 7: Welcome Home!

Thought this was appropriate for Easter Monday, too. If you're Israeli, or know Israelis, you'll understand:

As the El Al plane settled down at Ben Gurion airport, the voice of the Captain came on:
"Please remain seated with your seat belts fastened until this plane comes to a complete stop at the gate, and the seat belt signs have been turned off. We also wish to remind you that the use of cell phones on board this aircraft is strictly prohibited."
"To those of you who are still seated, we wish you a Merry Easter, and hope that you enjoy your stay in the Holy Land. And to those of you standing in the aisles and talking on your cell phones, we wish you a Happy Passover, and welcome back home."

-- sigh -- Makes me homesick...

Israelis are a strange bunch. I remember reading in an Israeli newspaper, back when I was living there, about a woman who parked her car on the street -- and came back to find it totally wedged in. She may have had a centimeter or two of clearance fore and aft, but no more. An Israeli man, walking by and seeing her predicament, helpfully guided her out of the spot. A bit more forward -- stop -- now break hard left -- back, back -- stop -- now break hard right -- now forward, slowly...

After eight to ten passes, she was able to make it out of the parking space. She waved thanks, and prepared to drive off. The Israeli man acknowledged her thanks... and got into his own car. Yes, his car had been the one blocking hers.

Time for a reprise of the old joke from before the fall of the USSR:

A polling company attempted to take a poll of people from different countries. The question was: "Excuse me, what's your opinion of the meat shortage?"

The poll didn't come out. Russians didn't know the meaning of "opinion," Poles didn't know the meaning of "meat," Americans didn't know the meaning of "shortage," and Israelis didn't know the meaning of "excuse me."
