Pentagon Thinks US Soldiers Need Adult Super-Vision

USMC LCPL Sensing

New firm PixelOptics of Roanoke, VA has announced that it will receive $3.5 million from the Defense Department to develop "SuperVision," a technology that may improve the vision of US soldiers beyond 20/20 via electro-active prescription lenses. The technology uses sensors and electro-active transparent material to alter the index of refraction of the lens dynamically, without any moving parts.

This provides a number of performance advantages, allowing the wearer to instantly achieve optimal vision no matter where they look (far, near, or in-between). In addition, lenses based on this technology show promise for significantly reducing momentary blurring caused by head tilt and movement, as well as distortion associated with conventional state of the art bifocals and progressive addition lenses.

Can't speak for US soldiers, but I know I'll be happy if this works. Now, how can these glasses provide vision that's better than 20/20? Defense Industry Daily explains...

Oooh I want these! from blogs for industry
Excerpt: For my next pair of glasses. Pixel's lenses dynamically alter the focus in ways not possible before. By adjusting the refractive index of an array of transparent pixels contained within the lens, it is possible to correct for the higher-order aberra...

Somewhat off-topic (I apologize), but Officer's Club has a great post here
entitled "99 Lufballons of Jihad."

The thinking, Iran has ambitions to be Muslims protector in Europe and will use it's nukes to back a Muslim uprising in Europe's cities and wrest control away from national governments to Sharia councils in cities across the Continent.

This isn't far-fetched. Europe from 1790 onward used it's vast military superiority to act as Christian (and to a lesser extent Jewish) protectors in the Ottoman Empire, insisting on things contrary to Islamic Law such as equal justice for Christians, end to jizya, the like.

I mention this because it's interesting that the US is becoming more and more deadly in war-fighting with advanced technology showing up GLASSES that make you sort of "Bionic Man" or comic book superhero, while Europe engages in lame 80's pacifist fantasies and Jihadis while dangerous and adaptive have nothing like this.

Yes Iran is getting close to nukes. We knew it would happen with some state like that, it's 60 year old tech. I don't think ANY Muslim state can produce anything like this, or the next generation. Maybe Japan, but not even China or Russia. On one level the US stands alone (fortunately) at making sci-fi super-stuff reality.

Maybe we can have a post on the Officer's Club bit?

Here are some quick tips for adding simple Textile formatting to your comments, though you can also use proper HTML tags:

*This* puts text in bold.

_This_ puts text in italics.

bq. This "bq." at the beginning of a paragraph, flush with the left hand side and with a space after it, is the code to indent one paragraph of text as a block quote.

To add a live URL, "Text to display":http://windsofchange.net/ (no spaces between) will show up as Text to display. Always use this for links - otherwise you will screw up the columns on our main blog page.
