Daniel Drezner discusses the rise of a new generation of Red Sox fans, whose youth is unencumbered by past heartbreaks. The Bosox are leading the American League Wild Card race right now, and if their bullpen gets hot at the right time then anything is possible for them. IF. As in, the middle of "life".

They obviously need to start teaching Red Sox history in the schools. This has to be nipped in the bud. The only way to watch a Red Sox game is with bitter cynicism. Hope is bad, m'kay?

As a die hard sox fan, there's a sense of hope around this town like there hasn't been in years. This could be the year. Yes, I know there are tons of naysayers out there who are laughing at me right now. But, the Red Sox are playing a style of baseball right now that allows teams to go deep into the playoffs. I think the Red Sox can beat any team in the league in a seven games series. Bring it on baby!!!

My father, a Red Sox fan and I have come up with a theory that emergency services in Boston will be stretched to their limits if they win the World Series. All the old duffers who are hanging on to see them win it, will die at the end of the final game. It could completely alter the demographics of New England.

My grandfather acutally remembered the 1918 world Series and told me stories of it. I have been a Red Sox fan since that fateful year of 1946 (Pesky, throw the ball!). Of course I remember 1949 and then those horrible '50s ("a million ground balls going through a million pair of legs"). !986 sent me to the psych couch. I thought I'd come to terms with the "curse" until that call at 2nd base that killed the Red Sox rally in the '99 (or was it '00) playoff series with the Yankees. Now my wife says that if the Red Sox enter post season play, I cannot watch the games in the house but must listen to them on the car radio in the driveway. So, I'm rooting for Seattle; at 65 I don't think I can survive another Yankee-Red Sox post season series.
