Damian Penny recently linked to an article by Canadian commentator Rex Murphy. Published a day after my own piece, it also talked about the connection between hating Israel and hating America.
With respect, Rex is in the right area but missed the target. He sees people whose position on Israel and lack of moral context re: the Palestinians is wholly determined by their feelings about the USA. Like me, he concludes that Israel is a convenient proxy - especially when Anti-Americanism is out of fashion.
This is correct as far as it goes, but Rex fails to take the thought to its logical conclusion. As a result, he misses both a full expose of the underlying dynamics at work and the reason America should take notice.
But then, that's why we blog... Rex may miss these things, but you don't have to.

I hope to GOD that the Liberal Party of Canada goes to where the sun does not shine.
News that the US sent a stronger ship to tow the Canadian Sub makes my stomach just turn in complete anger. How totally sickening is our federal liberal party, whose members openly, at every opportunity, slam the US and/or make rude comments about its government. Yet, despite the rudeness of our Canadian representatives, the US, as we all knew it would do, came to our rescue. WE DID NOT DESERVE IT - PEOPLE!
Well, to Parrish et al, the US did come to the rescue of our troubled Canadian second-hand sub that was sent without an escort over the worst waters of the world (northern Atlantic).
This is beyond the realm of acceptance. I demand the Canadian government use our newspapers and television media to publicly announce to both Canadian citizens and American citizens OUR HEART FELT THANKS FOR THEIR AID. ALSO, THANKS TO THE UK MILITARY FOR COMING TO RESCUE OUR SUB SINCE WE COULD NOT!!!!
A hearty "you're welcome" from this US citizen.
Canada faces some hard choices over the next decade. I don't know how you all will make them, but I am hoping the answer is: wisely and with your eyes wide open.
I'm not sanguine that will happen. I continue to hope it will, though.
