Roadmap Roundup: 2003-05-28

A quick roundup of various posts related to the Israeli-Palestinian Roadmap. In some circles, it's considered a path to peace. In other circles, it's known as the "Road Map to Murderville."

  • Israeli Prime Minister Sharon has never been shy about giving his point of view. He still isn't. It might surprise you.

  • Kesher Talk has a hopeful but realistic view of the whole Israeli-Palestinian road map process.

  • We've covered Omar Karsou before (here and here), and it's nice to see him popping up again. Finance Minister Salam Fayyad also seems like an impressive character.

  • Still, it's good to remember all this, too.

  • And this. LGF points to a surprisingly hard-nosed BBC interview with a senior figure in Hamas, who basically admits that pushing the Jews into the sea is a primary goal of theirs. Includes a RealVideo link. As Charles notes: "The Islamic supremacist mindset revealed, in all its naked ugliness." For the roadmap to work, these people will have to be defeated. Who does it is immaterial, but peace is not possible if they are left alone.

  • Don't forget Jordan. They won't play a high-profile role, but they will play. The twin imperatives of their Palestinian majority and their role in the War on Terror makes it impossible for them to sit on the sidelines.

I think it does matter who defeats Hamas, et al. It has to be the PA. If it is Israel, the Road Map will not work, because it would entail the more and escalated military incursions which play into the hands of the Palestinian hate/murder institutions.

    Not holding my breath.

Here are some quick tips for adding simple Textile formatting to your comments, though you can also use proper HTML tags:

    *This* puts text in bold.

    _This_ puts text in italics.

bq. This "bq." at the beginning of a paragraph, flush with the left hand side and with a space after it, is the code to indent one paragraph of text as a block quote.

To add a live URL, "Text to display":http://windsofchange.net/ (no spaces between) will show up as Text to display. Always use this for links - otherwise you will screw up the columns on our main blog page.
