Sufi Wisdom: G-d & Our Enemiesby Joe Katzman at September 21, 2002 11:23 PM
As militant Islam does its level best to discredit the religion, it's important to remember that there are other voices within the faith. One such is the Sufis, the Islamic mystics who live islam (submission), iman (faith) and ishan (awareness of G-d, "to act beautifully"). This story comes from Sheikh Muzaffer, via Story Fadiman & Frager's highly recommended "Essential Sufism": "When someone brought information to Nushrivan the Just that an enemy of his had been removed from this world by G-d the Most High, he asked: "Have you heard anything about his intending to spare me?"Perfect.
