As militant Islam does its level best to discredit the religion, it's important to remember that there are other voices within the faith. One such is the Sufis, a branch of Islamic mystics who live islam [submission], iman [faith] and ishan [awareness of G-d, "to act beautifully"]. Every Saturday, therefore, we spend some time with the Sufis and their 'crazy wisdom'.
This week's installment comes from Kathy Kinsley of On the Third Hand, via last week's comments section. It is taken from "The Exploits of the Incomparable Mulla Nasrudin" by Idries Shah. She really ought to run a few of these on her blog, so I can link them on future Saturdays:
"When I was in the desert," said Nasrudin one day, "I caused an entire tribe of horrible and bloodthirsty Bedouins to run." --"However did you do it?" "Easy, I just ran, and they ran after me."Sufi stories usually teach on several levels. What lessons can we find in this one?
In this story, the horrible and bloodthirsty Bedouins refers to the militant Islamists, while the Nasrudin character represents Clinton. The running away represents sending cruise missiles in to do an Army's work. The pack of terrorist's following Clinton back to New York makes him a world leader.
