That's What The Internet Is For

Ben Affleck may believe "That's what the Internet is for. Slandering others anonymously."

But he's wrong.

Let me tell you what the Internet is for.

Right now, I'm in Chicago for the burial of my father-in-law's ashes. He died last year, and today we buried him.

We flew in Friday night, and having missed our flight at 6:00 Friday morning, would up on a oft-delayed trip back that got us into Chicago at 8:30 at night. We'd missed dinner with TG's brother, and when we called her mom from O'Hare, she said we should just come over to her place and have leftover tempura.

We weren't very interested in that. Chicago is not known for its tempura.

We wanted pizza. And pizza near her mom's condo in Glenview.

I have a Treo 650, and Yahoo Local has listings for pizza places near TG's mom's place.

So while TG rented our Mustang, I surfed the web.

We scored a deep-dish sausage and pepperoni with extra garlic from Viccino's on Glenview & Harlem. and brought it to my mother-in-law's.

It was excellent.

And, my friends, that's what the Internet is for.

Condolences to your family, A.L.

Here is where you go to get internet pizza in Oslo, Norway. The special is 349 Kroner, which is only $55.87. Plus you get Koka-Kola drikke and a DVD of a foreign art film.

If you hassle with the guy who answers the phone, you can get another popular soft drink instead of the Coke: Bon Aqua Lemon, Tab X-tra, Sprite Zero, Fanta Free Orange (guaranteed to contain no Fanta) or "Olden Bla Naturell".

So the internet is also useful in Europe, just in case anyone was wondering why non-Americans are allowed to use it.

56 dollars for a pizza ?

A.L.

Now I know why I never paid good money see that movie and I certainly have no plans on seeing it now.

Like you I see much more value in the internet:
Inventions
Philanthropy
History
Science
Cuisine

Condolences, AL. But you could also have asked someone who lives there. If you need more restaurant recommendations, I'm just an email away. There's a great Japanese restaurant at Lake Street and Skokie Blvd., for example.

What Dave said. If you are looking for Chicago restaurants email me :)

Dave, Mark - next time we're back there, we'll have to do a meetup of some kind. TG is Japanese, so with her family, I've had my fill of Japanese food there (and no, your sushi isn't nearly as good as ours is)....

A.L.

Very funny stuff! Ben A. has thin skin anyway.

Here are some quick tips for adding simple Textile formatting to your comments, though you can also use proper HTML tags:

*This* puts text in bold.

_This_ puts text in italics.

bq. This "bq." at the beginning of a paragraph, flush with the left hand side and with a space after it, is the code to indent one paragraph of text as a block quote.

To add a live URL, "Text to display":http://windsofchange.net/ (no spaces between) will show up as Text to display. Always use this for links - otherwise you will screw up the columns on our main blog page.
