What Are You A Gateway To?

Usually, poetry or free verse is left to my sweetie. I thought I'd throw this in, however, because it also applies to the blogosphere. As an old reader in France just reminded me, it also represents a fragment salvaged from a (now defunct) personal web site that I began back in 1997. The Kat's Meow included self-paced training libraries re: e-commerce and the electronic economy, intranets, web design, and knowledge management; as well as a link to a site I had done for the brilliant organizational change thinker Gareth Morgan. It isn't the information highway
That's the key to your future.
It's the human highway
Made possible
By information technology.

The information economy
Is a fiction
Economics revolves around scarcities
Information is not scarce
Attention is
Return on investment = Return on time
In the attention economy
We are all performers

On a digital stage?
Sometimes
Attention is a peek into another's mind
A connection
Performance is the act of encoding the glimpse
In music
Gestures
Light
Bits
It all begins
With the most difficult instrument
Yourself
The universe lends other tools
For us to shape
We learn to use them as extensions of ourselves
Because they are

Doorways. Portals. Hubs
They flourish on-line as gateways to possibilities.
They flourish off-line, too
If you take the time to notice
What are you a gateway to?

Thanks to a most excellent 1999 Black Sabbath concert for the inspiration.
